Assignment 3
- Read Chapter 2 in Hall.
- 1. Hall, page 35, Exercise 1.
- 2. Hall, page 35, Exercise 5.
- 3. Hall, page 35, Exercise 6.
- 4. Hall, page 35, Exercise 8.
- 5. For this exercise you may use the Macintosh computers in Small 305,
or use those in the Music Library in Ewell Hall. In order to get maximum
benefit from this course, one must be conversant in musical language as well
as in physics. The program Practica Musica will allow you to learn note
names and intervals at your own pace. If you need an introduction to this,
please ask for help.
- a) Pull down the Apple menu (upper left-hand corner) and select Practica Musica.
- b) Find your name in the list and double click on it. You may select your own
password if you choose.
- c) First play around with the keyboard and notes presented to you. You can
play up to four notes and have them notated on the staves provided. The
big C clears that entry. The bars below this will play the 3-4 tones as a chord.
- d) Pull down Pitch Reading from the Activities menu.
- e) Select Level 1 from the Pitch Reading menu.
- f) If you need it, you can select Staff Keyboard from the Options menu.
- g) Once you can do without the staff Keyboard, turn it off by selecting
Plain Keyboard from the Options menu.
- h) Complete levels 1 and 2.
