Assignment 4
- Read 10.1, 12.1 and Chapter 7 in Hall.
- 1. Hall, page 195, Exercise 1.
- 2. Hall, page 195, Exercise 2.
- 3. Hall, page 195, Exercise 4.
- 4. Hall, page 252, Exercise 3.
- 5. Hall, page 252, Exercise 6.
- 6. Hall, page 252, Exercise 7.
- 7. For this exercise you may use the Macintosh computers in Small 305,
or use those in the Music Library in Ewell Hall.
- a) Pull down the Apple menu (upper left-hand corner) and select
Practica Musica.
- b) Choose any of the four names listed
- c) Pull down Interval Spelling from the Activities menu.
- d) Select Level 1 from the Interval Spelling menu. (There is help in this
menu if you need instructions about the various intervals.)
- e) If you need it, you can select Staff Keyboard from the Options menu.
- f) Once you can do without the staff Keyboard, turn it off by selecting Plain
Keyboard from the Options menu.
- g) Complete Level 1.
- h) Repeat for Interval Playing Level 1.
- i) Report which levels you have completed. (The bookkeeping feature
of the program is not working right now.)
- j) Extra Credit: Complete Level 3 in both cases.
- 8. Go to Jones 113 and log on to your account there (phys??).
- a) move the mouse to a black area and hold down the right button;
select xmosaic.
- b) wait until the outline of a window appears; move it to
wherever you want it and then hit the left mouse button.
Congratulations! Your on the info-highway.
- c) Go to the File menu and select "Open URL";
move the mouse arrow into the box
that appears and type: http://physics.wm.edu
- d) Click on items of interest.
Do a little net surfing to get familiar with the system.
- e) Look in Course Related Materials (on the Physics home page). You will find
Physics 121. Inside there will be all the information from our course,
including notes, assignments, answers, graphs, data, etc.
- f) Select "Add Current to Hotlist" from the "Navigate" menu.
Future trips to the physics home page can be made by merely
selecting "Hotlist" from the "Navigate" menu.
- g) Select "Exit Program" from the File menu when you're done.
- h) Log off using "Exit Xwindows" on the middle mouse button.
