Machine Shop Course

Over the summer 9 of the 16 REU students took the machine shop course we offer. This is a course which is difficult to fit in to the regular course schedule here and yet provides valuble experience for future experimentalists. The students make miniature naval cannons. These are brass with a tapered barrel, 4 wheels, and a carriage which allows the barrel to be elevated. The cannon is about 12 cm long. This course was also offered to the Teachers.
