Physics 101 - Final Exam 1995

Lecturer: C.F. Perdrisat

Problem 1

(same as Problem 1 on 1996 final)

Problem 2

A 2-kg block is released 4 m from a massless spring with a force constant k=100 N/m that is fixed along a frictionless plane inclined at 30 as shown.

  1. find the maximum compression of the spring.
  2. if the plane is not frictionless and the coefficient of kinetic friction between it and the block is 0.2, find the maximum compression of the spring.
  3. for the rough incline of b), how far up the incline will the block travel after leaving the spring (no energy is lost in the spring compression and decompression!).

Problem 3

(same as Problem 3 on 1996 final)

Problem 4

(same as Problem 4 on 1996 final)

Problem 5

(same as Problem 5 on 1996 final)

Problem 6

During very high winds, the atmospheric pressure inside a house may blow off the roof because of the reduced pressure outside. Calculate the force on a square roof 15 m on a side, if the wind speed over the roof is 30 m/s (neglect the thickness of the roof). The density of air under NTP is 1.29 kg.m3.

Problem 7

(same as Problem 7 on 1996 final)

Problem 8

(same as Problem 8 on 1996 final)
