Nuclear and Particle Theory Group

The Department of Physics at William and Mary (W&M) and the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab) seek applications for a joint tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in theoretical physics with specialization in theoretical Nuclear and Hadronic Physics, including the fields of perturbative and nonperturbative QCD, hadron structure and spectroscopy, effective field theories and the application of lattice QCD to all aspects of strong interaction physics. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics at the time of appointment (August 10, 2016). The successful candidate is expected to initiate and maintain a strong research program, seek external funding, and demonstrate excellence in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

The William & Mary Department of Physics, where the appointee would be a regular faculty member, currently has 27 full-time faculty, approximately 80 PhD graduate students, and a substantial number of undergraduate majors who actively participate in its various research programs. The JLab Theory Group, where the appointee would be a senior staff member, currently consists of fifteen permanent senior members (ten of whom have joint appointments at PhD-granting universities), postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students.
